Social Studies Teacher
Tristan comes to the Mt. Scott community this year as a social studies instructor. This will be his ninth year as a social studies teacher. He previously taught for Job Corps here in Portland, as well as high schools and middle schools in Eugene.
Tristan grew up in San Diego, graduated from high school in Medford, Oregon and then moved to Eugene where he attended the University of Oregon. At U of O Tristan earned a Bachelor's degree, double majoring in English literature and philosophy. He also went to U of O for his Master in Secondary Education degree, where he focused on urban schooling.
Tristan uses broader concepts of history and social studies to draw students into issues that are relevant to them in their lives in the contemporary world. He strives to have his students challenge the status quo, engage in the difficult conversations, and come away as more world-wise and empowered people.
In his spare time, Tristan likes to read nonfiction history books (surprise), work on his bicycle, camp and backpack, play video games, and spend time with his wife and cat.
