Mt. Scott building receives exterior makeover

Mt. Scott Learning Center achieved a long-standing goal this summer by completing an exterior painting and window makeover of its historic school building in SE Portland.

The extensive project began with the replacement of the building’s aging and deteriorating main level windows with new, custom-designed, energy-efficient windows that reflect the building’s original design. This was followed by a massive exterior painting of the building, which was formerly the home of Laurelwood Methodist Church and various private school operations.

Mt. Scott leased the majority of the building from 2004 through 2012 and completed a $500,000 remodel in 2011, converting the building’s vacant sanctuary into classrooms and offices. In the fall of 2013, the Mt. Scott non-profit organization formally purchased the entire facility and adjoining property.

Shepard Painting of Portland was the contractor for the summer painting project, with Barbara Pierce of CJ Hurley Century Arts serving the important role of color consultant.
