About Us

Mt. Scott Learning Center (MSLC) opened in 1994 to serve the needs of students struggling to succeed in traditional classrooms. Our school grew along with the growing realization that non-traditional programs can better address the social, economic, and academic challenges many students are experiencing. In 2013, through an astounding level of community support, we were able to purchase and renovate our current facility, the historic Laurelwood Church and education center on SE Holgate Blvd. Today, we enroll 160 students in grades 9-12, with a full core curriculum, elective offerings, monthly service learning, and community partnerships in the arts, outdoor education, and more.

We have been regionally accredited by Cognia since 2003, certifying that our program meets a rigorous set of standards and has been validated by an outside team of peers. Our accreditation ensures that our students’ credits, transcripts, and diplomas will be recognized by other accredited institutions.

Our programmatic approach centers relationship-building, restorative justice, and social-emotional wellness.
