Faces of Mt. Scott: Kaliyah

For more than 25 years Mt. Scott Learning Center has worked to provide a learning
community where every student feels welcomed, accepted, respected, and supported as
they explore their own unique path to graduation and a happy, successful life after high
school.

Students like Kaliyah (class of 2025), who spent much of her young life living in verbally
and physically abusive foster care settings. She later reunited with her biological
grandmother and stepmother but wound up struggling at a large, traditional high school.
She came to Mt. Scott after losing interest in her studies and losing confidence in herself.
At Mt. Scott, Kaliyah found hope, safety, and success.

turnaround story.

“I think Mt. Scott has definitely given me the courage to be who I am,” says Kaliyah.
“Everyone here is just so kind. And they understand that everyone’s here for their own
reason. Smaller settings are always better, and at Mt. Scott, you really feel like everyone
cares about you.”
