Students receive Future Connect scholarship
Nine students from Mt. Scott Learning Center have been awarded the 2023-24 Future Connect Scholarship sponsored through the City of Portland and Portland Community College (PCC).
Congratulations Dorian Bracewell-Stokes, Bohdon Santiago, Harley Beach, Liam Pearson, Jaidyn Grahn, Esther Sanchez, Grace Reeves, Devo Whittam, and Hailey Sturgeon on earning the award. The Mt. Scott students were selected from more than 700 applicants for the Future Connect Scholarship, which works to eliminate barriers to attending college for low-income and first-generation college students.
These nine students have shown determination and commitment to their post-high school goals, and Future Connect will pair them with support services to register for classes, finalize financial-aid documents, connect with current PCC students, and engage in community- building activities as they prepare for the fall term.
Future Connect offers students a financial scholarship for two years, guidance in career pathway planning, a success coach, job and internship opportunities, enrichment activities, and transfer support for those looking to move on to a 4-year university. Future Connect has been important in increasing college retention and degree achievement since 2011.
