Dan comes to the Mt. Scott community with a wholehearted belief in the mission of alternative schooling programs. As a graduate of Crossroads alternative high school in Quilcene, Washington, he understands that every person can thrive when placed in an environment that truly takes their individuality into account. He’s committed to supporting the learning experience at Mt. Scott by honoring the inherent value and unique capabilities of each student.
Dan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy with minor in Russian Studies from Willamette University. While earning his degree, he worked as an educational aide in his school’s philosophy department and at the Salem-Keizer Family Literacy Program. These experiences gave him a profound affinity for serving his community in academic environments. In the years since graduating, he has worked in retail roles and as a real estate broker, but he’s excited to return to a school setting where helping others grow is the main goal.
Outside of work Dan enjoys writing little folk songs, editing/producing chapbooks of his peers’ writing, seeing live music, reading good books and watching bad movies. He lives in Southeast Portland with his girlfriend Clara and their cats, Plum (the good one) and Pistachio (the troublemaker).
