Matt Cutler is new to Portland, having spent the last five years helping to start and grow a successful charter school in Nashville, TN. Originally from California, Matt earned his BA in modern literary theory from UC Santa Cruz and an M.Ed from Vanderbilt’s Peabody School of Education. While at Vanderbilt, he served as a writing consultant, helping students and professors to develop their ideas and to refine their written work.
Matt believes in language arts instruction that engages students with rich texts alongside relevant, exciting lines of inquiry. He believes that strong reading and skilled writing empower individuals to connect, to contribute, and to succeed.
When he isn’t teaching, Matt can usually be found reading science fiction, taking long bike rides, or meowing at one of his two cats.
